Have you ever wondered what the Red Dwarf title sequence would look like if it was made in the style of the classic soap Dallas? You haven’t. Oh. You’ve never been that bored probably.
Well, I wondered. Primarily because as everyone knows, Dallas has perhaps the greatest theme tune of any TV show ever, and also it’s a bit of an editing challenge with multiple iconic elements…and apparently I don’t have anything better to do. Also, it’s a bit of a weird trope on YouTube and no one had done one for Red Dwarf yet. If you haven’t seen it, I’d strongly recommend the Star Wars/ Dallas mash up.
It has the big exterior shots, followed by that strange parading crawl with black bars followed by the split screen cast shots. It ends on an explosion, because Red Dwarf title sequences end on explosion and there’s rarely been a sequence which zooms into a nice house.
Clips have been taken from all the Dave era Red Dwarf from Back to Earth up to Series XI and put together to create this monstrosity. Only current cast members are included because it all makes it feel a little more of the moment.
Don’t you think that the frontier-inflected theme tune adds a little something to that deep space vibe? You probably don’t do you. It’s all been a colossal waste of time.
