News Roundup (25/11/12)

  • Series X DVD

With the Series X DVD having been released on monday there has been a variety of reviews making their way online.  The shows themselves got a generally great reaction and it appears that the DVD is getting the same. This is due in no small part of course to Nathan Cubitt’s excellent documentary that is the centrepiece of the special features and frankly worth the price of the DVD alone. Here is a quick roundup of a few of the reviews doing the rounds currently:

Gazpacho Soup

Ganymede & Titan

Metro

SFX

Sci-Fi Now

The Hollywood News

There has also been a variety of publicity to surround the release, with the cast doing the rounds on TV and radio as well as speaking to various members of the press. The big focus of the press has been on the possibility of more new episodes of the show, with the Radio Times and SFX both talking to Craig and discussing his hopes for the future, while various sites ran Chris and Danny’s comments on how they believe there will be more to come. The later of these is taken from the same interview session that Gazpacho Soup were in attendance for, so you can expect to see more on that hopefully sometime next week in our Series X retrospective episode of The Garbage Podcast.

Finally, the winner of the Official Site’s own competition to promote the Series X DVD has been announced with a video of the cast reading their winning limerick being uploaded to YouTube. You can view it for yourself below:

  • A Celebration Of Red Dwarf X

Den of Geek have run an article looking back at Series X and discussing why the series has put the show back in a comfortable position. It’s well worth a read, especially now we can all look back at the series as a whole. While you’re there, the home page has a mini-game to promote the DVD where you can unlock clips from the DVD.

  • Gazpacho Soup Day Giveaway

If you’re reading this roundup on today (November 25th) then you’ll may well be aware that today is Gazpacho Soup day. To mark the occasion, we are having a one day competition to win a few little prizes. Up for grabs we have two copies of the Red Dwarf X DVD, both the HMV steelbook edition and a copy of the regular edition. Why two? Well aside from both being lovely in their own right, our regular edition has been very kindly signed for us by Chris Barrie, Danny John Jules and Robert Llewelyn. But all good competitions give away a cuddly toy, so we are also including this soft toy of The Cat in classic Series IV getup that Alex has knocked up for something a bit different to give away that you can’t get elsewhere.

To enter, all you need to do is send an email marked ‘Gazpacho Soup Day Giveaway’ toGazpachoSoupRD@gmail.com and prove that you’re both a human and in possession of some Red Dwarf knowledge (or at least an ability to google) by ansering the question, ‘which actor played Hogey the Roguey in the last epsiode of Series X?’

Apologies to our overseas readers, but the competition is only open to UK residents. For the rest of you, the competition closes at midnight tonight, so be sure to get your entry in quickly if you want to be in with a chance!
