The Beginning Overnight Rating
The overnight ratings are in for the final episode of the new series. ‘The Beginning’ was viewed by 975k people across Dave and Dave Ja Vu in its initial airing. This is down 0.2m on last week. Not including Dave Ja Vu it clocks in as Dave’s eighth highest overnight rating behind 6 new episodes of Red Dwarf (‘Back to Earth’ Episode 1 and 3, ‘Trojan’, ‘Fathers and Suns’, ‘Lemons’ and ‘Dear Dave’ as well as a repeat of ‘Gunmen of the Apocalypse’).
At the same time competition was much higher than last week. It was the toughest competition new Red Dwarf has faced on Dave.
BBC One drama flop Hunted fell even further from last week from 3.08m to 2.59m.
ITV1 drama DCI Banks achieved 3.69m.
Big competition came from the premier of The Inbetweeners Movie which achieved 2.78m.
BBC Two had a strong performance with their documentary Great Continental Railway Journeys. It recorded 2.55m viewers in the 9pm hour.
Russell Howard’s Good News was nearly 0.3m down on the previous week to 0.653m viewers in the 9pm hour. This is one of the lowest ratings ever for Good News.
The Europa League was strong competition too. Over the 6 hours and a half as Liverpool and Tottenham played, 1.27m watched ITV4.
Series Overnight Ratings
Below is a chart with the ratings for the first showing on Dave and Dave Ja Vu. The Dave Ja Vu ratings for ‘Dear Dave’ have not been released.
At an average of over 1.1m, Red Dwarf X has proved incredibly strong for Dave. The share of the audience also shows a strong following for Red Dwarf. Compare the average share of 5.15% to the average audience share for Dave and Dave Ja Vu for September and October 2012 (1.2% for both) to see just how strong Red Dwarf X is compared with the normal Dave line-up.
The final consolidated figures for ‘Entangled’ have not been released by the BARB.
